"Forensic Psychophysiology Using the Polygraph" Scientific Truth Verification - Lie Detection Foreword: Hon. Vincent E. Doyle    Doctor James Allan Matte has once again asked me to write a Foreword to this, his new textbook. I had been so impressed with his first work, "The Art and Science of the Polygraph Technique," published in 1980, that I was moved to write the Foreword to that book, wherein I described my knowledge of James Allan Matte, Ph.D., and my work with him when I was in private practice almost 20 years ago.    Doctor James Allan Matte has continued his endeavors on behalf of his science. As can be seen from his curriculum vitae, he has been most active in various polygraph associations as well as societies involved in psychophysiological research and study. As Doctor Matte points out, the Federal Rules of Evidence, as recognized by Daubert v. Dow Pharmaceutical (1993), have changed the test for the admission of expert testimony and scientific evidence in the Federal Court. The author Matte makes a very convincing argument that the new standard opens the door for polygraph evidence to be considered by the jury along with any and all other evidence, direct, circumstantial and expert. His chapter on the legal aspects of the PV examination is most comprehensive and enlightening.    Students of this science, as well as lawyers who seek to understand it, would be well served by reading Doctor Matte’s exhaustive treatise which is written with great clarity and based upon painstaking research.
